When I was getting my body ready to have my second When I was getting my body ready to have my second child, my Chinese herbalist and acupunturist at the time gave me a whole range of foods and drinks to avoid and in particular, told me to stop drinking all cold water from the fridge or with ice. Since doing that over 9 years ago, I have become so comfortable drinking room temp water that I don't even like cold water now (unless it's a super hot day!).

I learnt during this time and since that drinking room temperature water instead of ice-cold water is a simple change that can positively impact your digestion and overall wellbeing. Scientifically, cold water can cause blood vessels in the stomach to constrict and slow down digestion, which might lead to discomfort or bloating. Room temperature water, on the other hand, helps maintain the body’s natural temperature and supports smoother digestion and better hydration.

From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), room temperature water is believed to be gentler on the body’s “digestive fire.” Ice-cold water can dampen this energy, making it harder for the body to process food and absorb nutrients effectively. Warm or room temperature water helps keep the digestive system balanced and encourages the smooth flow of Qi and blood.

Are you a cold or room temp water drinker? Drop a comment.

Natural remedies our family reaches for when life Natural remedies our family reaches for when life gets a little wobbly 🌿

We all know those moments when kids come down with sniffles, tummy aches, or just seem a bit off. Gentle natural remedies can be such a comforting support, alongside plenty of rest and love.

Here are some simple, trusted helpers we turn to regularly, and are easy to include in everyday family life.

✨ Homeopathics – tiny, gentle remedies that support fevers, coughs, colds, anxiety, hayfever, nausea, and more. Curious? @earthsisters_au or @rmdy.collective is a wonderful place to start.

✨ Honey & onion mix – a classic natural fix of sliced onions topped in a jar with raw organic honey from @realbarbaraoneill, perfect for soothing sore throats and calming coughs.

✨ Essential oil Digestzen from @doterraaus – we roll this around the belly button and tummy, add a hot water bottle, and voilà — tummy troubles soothed.

✨ Nasal strips by @bwll_health – simple support to help little noses breathe better and reduce mouth breathing.

✨ Tallow healing balm – our go-to for scrapes, cuts, and rashes; available at @earthsisters_au or @fully.nourished , or try the soothing salve from @jolinatural for healing skin care.

Remember, these are healing, natural tools to support your family’s wellbeing, not replacements for professional medical care. Always check with your GP or healthcare professional for what’s best for your unique situation.

Ever notice your kids feeling restless, hyper, emo Ever notice your kids feeling restless, hyper, emotional, or struggling to focus after eating - or even the next day? You’re not alone.

Sometimes, everyday ingredients in their food can sneakily affect how they feel and behave. Understanding this can help you parent with intention and calm. In my home I need to be super vigilant about some of the below ingredients in my kids' diet, otherwise we have a very unsettled day to day life.

Here are 5 common culprits to watch:

🔴 Artificial Food Colours (Red 40, Yellow 5) - can sometimes make kids a bit more hyper or irritable, switch to natural colours derived from fruits and veggies instead like ❤️ Red / Pink from beetroot, berries (strawberry, raspberry) and paprika, 💛 Yellow from turmeric, saffron, carrot juice and yellow beet and 💚 Green from spinach, spirulina and matcha.

⏳ Preservatives (Sodium Benzoate) - Found in soft drinks, jams, cakes, instant noodles. May impact focus or cause restlessness in sensitive little ones.

🍭 Artificial Sweeteners (such as Aspartame or Splenda/Sucralose) may sometimes affect mood or cause fussiness and are in diet sodas, low-calorie drinks, sugar free dairy products and even medicines - achieve natural sweetness from honey, maple syrup or fruit.

🥛 Dairy - some kids feel tired or grumpy after milk, cheese, or yogurt. Unless you can get your hands on the raw varieties. Gentle alternatives like oat or almond milk (with higher nut/seed content) can help.

🌾 Gluten - can upset mood or focus in some children. Soothing swaps include chia, quinoa, or rice.

Remember, it’s all about small, manageable changes, remove the pressure and work towards calm, happy mealtimes and beyond.

What's one ingredient you will start to focus on minimising or removing this week or in your next shop?

Well, October is well and truly here in Melbourne Well, October is well and truly here in Melbourne and I don’t know about you, but allergy season has really snuck up on me! It’s in full swing at our place… stuffy noses, hayfever, sneezing, tissues everywhere (thanks kids!), and pollen creeping in through every open door and window. 🌸🤧

If you’re looking for simple, low-stress ways to reduce allergens and manage symptoms at home, you’re in the right place. From managing both my daughter’s and son’s sensitivities, I’ve learned that small, consistent habits can make a big difference.

Here are a few gentle habits you can start today to help allergy-proof your home:

🍯 Try local raw honey. A small spoon daily can help desensitise your immune system to local pollen (best started a month before allergy season).
🛏️ Wash bedding weekly (and curtains occasionally). Keeps dust and pollen from irritating sensitive skin and airways.
🧽 Dust mindfully with microfibre cloths. These trap dust instead of spreading it around.
🧴 Choose natural cleaning products. Harsh chemicals can worsen allergies — vinegar and baking soda are simple and effective.
🧺 Declutter your spaces. Less clutter, fewer hiding spots for dust and allergens.
🌤️ Open windows strategically. Fresh air is great, just aim for early mornings or after rain when pollen levels are lower.
💧 Stay hydrated. Water helps flush allergens from your system and supports overall wellbeing.
👕 Wash faces and clothes after school. A quick rinse and change helps keep pollen from spreading around the house (and freshens everyone up too!).

These small shifts have made our home calmer and more comfortable (though we are always a work in progress!), and they might help you too. You don’t need to change everything overnight, just start with one or two habits and see how they feel for your family and build from there.

💚 What’s one allergy-proofing habit you’ve tried (or want to try)?

I'd love to hear what's been working for you. Let’s share ideas in making our homes calmer and more allergy friendly, one step at a time.

Words like “Detox,” “Non-toxic,” "Natural" Words like “Detox,” “Non-toxic,” "Natural" and “Clean” can feel healthy, comforting and positive, don't they?

Here’s a gentle truth: most of these wellness buzzwords don’t have official definitions or strict rules around their use.

That means brands can use them however they like, sometimes in ways that mislead well-meaning shoppers.

You might already know this, or it might surprise you. Either way, this awareness helps you make more conscious, informed choices for your family.

Greenwashing is a term used to describe when brands paint their products or practices as kinder to the earth than they really are. It’s like putting on a pretty mask to hide what’s underneath.

🛒 Keep this little nugget in mind next time you shop, and share it with anyone who does the grocery run at your place!

Hey 👋 I’m Rosie, a mum to 2 beautiful kids, a wife, friend, avid entrepreneur, wellbeing addict and someone who gets asked often why I smile so much. Everyday Awakenings has been a long time passion project, started when my daughter was just 10 months old, over 9 years ago now. As the name suggests, it truly is about awakening oneself every single day to a new way of being, opening our minds to new ideas, learning about new truths, and making better, informed choices across all areas to live our best lives. Mind. Body. Soul.🧘‍♀️

I have gone through many challenges in my life and overcome many of them (but I’m still a never ending work in progress). Whatever I have learnt and continue to learn that has helped shape me across all areas of my life, I share here with you.
