During my recent trip to Sydney, I was so surprise During my recent trip to Sydney, I was so surprised to receive the cutest Charlie’s Goodie Bag from @charliessafetreatbox packed with allergy-friendly, and and healthier snack options!

As a parent of a child with anaphylaxis, finding snacks that are not only safe but also nutritious and enjoyable is always a priority. 

It was such a pleasure discovering this small business founded by a passionate mum Sharon Gilbert, who started this business after her son Charlie was diagnosed with multiple life-threatening food allergies as a baby.  After suffering an anaphylactic reaction at daycare, leading to a hospital stay, she found that the hospital food on offer was ridden with the allergens that Charlie was allergic to and the food court provided no safe options.  This sparked the idea to create a safe space to access food and snacks that are free from the top 10 allergens, driven by their mission to providing individuals and families living with food allergies a sense of security and freedom in their dietary choices.

Not only that - the food choices on offer are healthier alternatives, safe and delicious as well! Right up our alley.

My kids were so excited when I got home - their personal favourite was @ginas__table Happles freeze dried apple bites dusted with raspberry powder. I tried them too and they were really yum. Will be stocking up on these. There's even some great chocolate block options for us adults - brands not readily available in supermarkets.

For those following along, you may have seen that For those following along, you may have seen that I recently travelled to Sydney to learn more about OIT (Oral Immunotherapy) a treatment designed to help desensitize the body to food allergens through carefully controlled exposure. As a mum to a little boy with anaphylaxis, the moment I learned this treatment was possible and harder to access in Melbourne, I was booking flights faster than you could say “safety first!”

Being in a room with other allergy parents was unexpectedly emotional. Hearing their stories, the fear, the courage, the persistent hope was overwhelming in the best way. It’s a journey none of us would choose, but being surrounded by people who truly understand made me feel seen and supported in a way I didn’t realise I needed.

I was so grateful to learn from @drdougjones , a U.S. board-certified allergist, immunologist, and OIT educator who has helped thousands of children achieve more food freedom. Another highlight was finally meeting @sharonmselby in person. After joining her allergy-free club and completing her gut-healing course over five years ago, it felt like a full-circle moment. I also appreciated the naturopathic expertise shared by @_emmasutherland, along with the energy and advocacy of @dr_ninamarkovic, a fellow allergy mum whose passion has helped create @immunity.group.australia alongside Dr. Jones.

I absorbed so much in such a short time and I’m still processing it all. But every step we take feels worth it if it means helping our little one live more freely, confidently, and safely.

I’ll be sharing more about what we’re learning, what we’re considering, and the small victories if we choose to move forward. Did you know the way we think directly shapes our reality? Our thoughts influence our beliefs, which guide our actions, and ultimately create the life we live. That’s why I’m such a fan of daily affirmations!

I weave affirmations into my everyday life, whether I’m drying my hair, folding laundry, or simply taking a moment to breathe. These little pockets of positivity shift my mindset and set the tone for my day.

Sometimes, I use guided affirmation videos on YouTube, tailored to whatever I want to focus on, like confidence, abundance, calm, or self-love. And there’s something truly powerful about mirror work, looking myself in the eyes and speaking words of encouragement directly to my soul.

If you want to invite more positivity and empowerment into your life, start with just one affirmation. "I am........."
Repeat it often, believe it deeply, and watch how your thoughts, actions, and ultimately your reality begin to transform.

We’re resharing this important reminder because We’re resharing this important reminder because it really struck a chord when we first shared it, and it’s such a valuable lesson about mindful thinking that’s worth revisiting. Sometimes, our minds get tangled in thoughts that don’t serve us, and becoming aware of these “waste thoughts” can be the first step toward freeing ourselves and finding more peace.

In my mid-twenties, I discovered the @thebrahmakumarisaustralia spiritual community. And yes, I thought it may have been a cult, and no it wasn't (phew!). ⁠
Together with a close girlfriend, we joined their positive thinking course program, and learnt all about how our thoughts are seperate to who we are, and how to identify different types of thoughts. It was a pivotal point in my life where I started to really understand the power of our thoughts and those learnings have stayed with me ever since.⁠

According to BK, there are 4 types of thoughts:⁠
1. Positive thoughts⁠
2. Negative thoughts⁠
3. Waste thoughts⁠
4. Necessary thoughts⁠
⁠
I'll cover these off over a few posts in time. But today I'll cover *waste thoughts*. ⁠
⁠
So what are they?⁠
⁠
Waste thoughts are: ⁠
⁠
- produced at untimely moments ⁠
- filling us with worry and anxiety ⁠
- not constructive ⁠
- unnecessary and useless ⁠
- quick and repetitive which lead you nowhere⁠
- about things we cannot change⁠
⁠
Thoughts that often refer to things from the past: ⁠
- If this hadn't happened ...⁠
- Why did she / he have to say that to me?⁠
⁠
About worries about the future: ⁠
- What will happen tomorrow?⁠
- How will it happen?⁠
- What will I do if I find myself on my own?⁠
- If I had been there at the time, this disaster would not have happened⁠
⁠
When I have a wasteful thought, I try hard to consciously let it go. When I can't let it go, I re-frame it and ask myself can I change it? If the answer is no, I let it go. 
If the thoughts stay and I become stuck, I reach out to my support crew (spiritual guide, kinesiologist, meditation practice, yoga practice, speak to a trusted friend etc or all of the above) and with their support, I let it go. ⁠

When I was getting my body ready to have my second When I was getting my body ready to have my second child, my Chinese herbalist and acupunturist at the time gave me a whole range of foods and drinks to avoid and in particular, told me to stop drinking all cold water from the fridge or with ice. Since doing that over 9 years ago, I have become so comfortable drinking room temp water that I don't even like cold water now (unless it's a super hot day!). 

 I learnt during this time and since that drinking room temperature water instead of ice-cold water is a simple change that can positively impact your digestion and overall wellbeing. Scientifically, cold water can cause blood vessels in the stomach to constrict and slow down digestion, which might lead to discomfort or bloating. Room temperature water, on the other hand, helps maintain the body’s natural temperature and supports smoother digestion and better hydration.

From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), room temperature water is believed to be gentler on the body’s “digestive fire.” Ice-cold water can dampen this energy, making it harder for the body to process food and absorb nutrients effectively. Warm or room temperature water helps keep the digestive system balanced and encourages the smooth flow of Qi and blood.
