Looking for a sugar alternative – try Organic Rice Malt Syrup.

I posted recently about how much added sugar is in our foods. So today’s post is all about one alternative to sugar, particularly when cooking sweets – and my current fave – Organic Rice Malt Syrup!

Organic Rice Malt Syrup is a versatile and natural sweetener made from organic brown rice. It is made through culturing rice with enzymes to breakdown the starches and then cooking until it becomes syrup. The final product contains soluble complex carbohydrates, maltose and a small amount of glucose and contains no fructose. It has a rich flavour with a mild sweetness.

If you would like to read more about fructose and why it’s bad for you, read Sarah Wilson’s article from I Quit Sugar.

You can use it to substitute sugar in cakes, biscuits, truffles, etc, and can use very little rice malt syrup to achieve sweetness. I even use it when making my favourite sticky and spicy fennel chicken thigh dish. As with all sugar or sugar replacement alternatives, moderation is required.

Our recommendation:
